The disaster causes her severe injuries, made her go through nearly 40 painful operations. She also lost the ability to have children then. Being lonely in hospital, Frida Kahlo starts to paint. All of her artworks seemed to embrace the symbols of physic and mental wounds. “I paint myself because I am so often alone and because I am the subject I know best”, Kahlo said.
